Step 1: What is Religion?

Religion is an organized system of beliefs, ceremonies, and rules used to worship a god or a group of gods

 

 

A. Create a new page on your website titled World Religions

 

B. On this page, create your own definition of religion including 3 examples of religions you know. 

 

C. Define the following terms using the definition site on the right:

-polytheism

-monotheism

 

D. Look at the chart in the resources on your right. What are the two most common religions in the World? Were you suprised by this? Why or why not. Write your answer on your World Religions page.

 

E. Take a look at the different gods for each religion using the resource on the right.

 

F. Draw a picture of what a god might look like to you. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Step 2: Types of Religions

There are many different types of religion. Each type of religion has their own traditons, rules, and beliefs.

 

 

A. Look at the resource on the right and explore the different type of religion

 

B. Pick one religion that you would like to know more about and create an information page on either Google Docs or PowerPoint. The title of the information page should be the name of the religion you picked. 

 

C. All of the following needs to be on your information page:

        - Title with the name of the religion you picked and             at least 3 pictures

        - What are two celebrations/holidays celebrated?                 What do those celebrations mean?

        - Where do people of this religion worship? What                 are considered "sacred places"?

        -How did the religion begin?

        -What do people of that religion believe?

 

D. Create a type of quiz using the information you wrote down on your Google Doc or PowerPoint. You may use one of the resources to the right to create either a word search, crossword puzzle, or Kahoot.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Step 3: Religion in America 

Religion has always played a part in American history. Sometimes, religion has inspired great things, other times, it has started contraversy (problems).

 

 

A. View the resources on the right about religion in America.

 

 

B. On a page titled Religion on your google site answer the following questions:

      - Why did the passengers on the Mayflower come to           America?

      - What is the reason many different religions are                 practiced in America today?

      - What are 3 religions practiced in America

      - What religion is a majority of the U.S. population?

      - What are two examples of religious symbolism in             the United States?

 

 

C. Unfortunately in America, there were times when religion created contraversy. One of those moments was the Salem Witch Trials. Watch the video on the right about the trials. Next, take a look at the reading.

 

D. Click on the link titled "Trials Crossword Puzzle". Print the puzzle and complete it. When you are finished, give your puzzle to a teacher to check.
